Honestly they are right, and it is not just about traffic. If there are 700,000 trucks there will be no place to put them. Even coming across through the route that was publicized there won't be anywhere for the trucks to stop if too many start going through the small towns.
IF the organizers really want the truckers there they should ask them to park the trailers if possible somewhere else and come in just their cabs. That would solve 2 issues - the space required, and the Sheriff's worries about smugglers (drug and human).
They also didn't tell them they could not come. They asked them not to. The Sheriffs also have free speech, and did what they should've done to try to alleviate potential issues.
The thing that worries me is DPS and NG personnel will have to be pulled from the border to do crowd control and ensure things don't get out of hand. That could also leave areas wide open for the feds to go in while everyone else is busy with a distraction.
I love the sentiment and agree with the whole purpose, but the Sheriffs are right. Go to DC like all the protesters overseas are going to their own capitals. Why should the people that live in those areas have to suffer with all those people there, when nobody there can and will do anything to stop the tyranny?
The real targets are in DC. Also shutting down DC would be good anyway.
