The plane likely has either military from the UK coming over to train, is dropping something off from the UK, or is picking something up for us. It could also be as simple as the pilot needs x amount of flying hours so they came here and will fly back in a day or 2.
In my past business travel days I've actually taken a flight from Texas to Seattle, had lunch, and flown back so I could get enough airline miles to keep my status.
