Supposedly Iran even gave up Soleimani to be killed. He was getting too much traction and support for the mullahs to ignore. He became a threat to them. The mullahs wanted him gone and knew we wanted him dead to. So they gave him up and Trump had him offed.

Trump let the shoot back in order to save face. Honor is huge in the Islamic world. Trump was smart enough to let them save face while they put on a butthurt charade screaming "retribution".
