I was having a conversation with a young couple about where they were going to have their oldest attend grammar school in the fall. They are looking at Acton schools, which are organized I believe legally as a version of homeschooling. It is apparently staffed by disaffected teachers from public and private who just got fed up with a failing model. I don't know much about this program other than what I have seen on the internet and in talking to the parents, but it sounds like there is an emerging body of alternatives to traditional "schools" focused on what you are talking about here. Teach them how to DO things, and how to THINK CRITICALLY. That's the point of this place at least according to the promos. I am not sold yet on this particular place, but intrigued that alternative models are starting to emerge.
Oklahoma has their "Homeschooling Capitol Day" tomorrow, Feb 6, 2024. Beginning of the session, and horrible legislation has been introduced. If in Oklahoma, show up to listen and visit with your legislators.
Main problem in OK, is they created a "Tax Credit" for not using the government school system, now everyone is putting the strings on the tax dollars....as expected.
Rep Swope has a 30+ page bill, ending with DHS home inspections every 6 months as well as background checks for ANYONE that is in contact with a homeschooler.....no other OK children, just those that are homeschooled.
Freedom for children works, and produces competent, emotionally healthy adults who know what they want in life and how to get it, who have natural respect for others, and who aren't easily taken in by tyrants.
Coercive schools produce adults who are accustomed to being coerced; being pushed around by the State and other "authorities" seems normal to them.
Even if you send your kids to public school you have to teach them tons of other things. Start with the rightly divided Word of God, NOT religion. Parents are supposed to teach their kids not the local pastor. Adults cam get fed by them pastor because they should have some discernment and can go research tje word fornrhemselves as to whether whatnus taught is accurate. Clergy are trained in .mostly corrupt seminaries. If you can read you can learn God's Word.
Agree and might I add clergy are often transferred where the previous pastor was conservative and the new one liberal. Unless you know God's Words you can be easily led astray.
I know a lot of catholics who received training only up to 1st Holy Communion (2nd grade in school) then transferred to public school. Grown up they cant understand why priests cannot allow something blaming the priest but its their own lack of knowledge of what is written in Scripture.
What a great post. I'm so looking forward to this being the norm as it is beyond clear that the public school system is broke.

Homeschooling lessons for the day don't actually take 8 hrs. Most kids only need about 2-3 hrs of solid instruction.

Join HSLDA to support them. I guarantee that they are already watching that legislation. They have done incredible work over the years!
But yes, the homeschool community needs to fight hard to ensure that legislation is not passed!
Absolutely, card carrying member and info by the door to recite through the door to any "guest".

Which would you prefer for your own life?
