DARAPANET is what we called it in the Army, I remember we used it in ~1980-81, for a type of email communication.
Thought everyone knew this.
All I know is we were using Windows in the military (USAF) between 81 to 88.
I remember dueling with a usenet troll in around 2007-08, on a private chatsite. It toughened my hide nicely.. 😊
Anyone remember Gopher?
I wonder if the internet was released and given to the public by good people in the military, or if it was always meant to be but the bad guys felt they could control it.
