If it were baal, it would not be gold, maybe bronze?
They were fresh off the Exodus with a bunch of Egyptian gold which is why I assume they went that way with it
But the issue for me is that then they couldn't worship baal. Becuase baal worship required a specific kind of child sacrifice where they would place the child on baals hands. Baal would be heated so that the kid would be fried or boiled to death.
The Bible literally says do not sacrifice your seed to Molech.
Why would god mention it if it hadn't been going on.

Thats Moloch. Baal worship didn't involve that type of sacrifice.
I'm inclined to think this was Baal esp after having studied the Ugaritic mythology they would have encountered in Canaan and before. Baal was just the Bullgod, also known as the rider on the storm or he who rides the clouds.
There are specific passages in the Ugaritic tablets that decry child sacrifice even. Not saying Baal is good just that it's different but similar deities
Jonathan Cahn goes pretty deeply into the three primary foreign deities in “Return of the Gods.”
Oh thanks I must have been mistaken
And the Bull was as much a symbol of might everywhere. Egypt had the Apis bull and Canaan had Baal who in one myth mates with a bull and produced offspring
Perhaps a wanna be like the rest of the world similar but different "Christianized" version of baal that was more Jesusy like a superb owl commercial?
It’s just a thought. I don’t know if we can truly validate this in either direction.
Seems reasonable given what we are seeing, though.
Worth guarding against, either way.
very true
