Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Outlander is my currant obsession. I started watching the TV several years ago and when the shutdowns started, 2020, I ordered the first book. It’s the first series or single book I’ve read that the show matches the books. Usually a movie and book are so different that I only choose one, read or watch. It’s a beautiful love story, a strong man who loves & respects his strong willed independent wife and so much more. Time travel, history Scottish war with England, family obligations, politics, highland clan life. I love history and that’s what sucked me in. The characters are larger than life. There is passion between them and sometimes detailed in scenes. I would not recommend a teenager read it. If sex scenes is something you choose not to read or see that could be a concern. It’s nor every page. They are very long, at least 500 pages and some are longer.

Mitford Series, Jan Karon is a beautiful story about a preacher in North Carolina. It’s very funny as well as heart warming story about the town’s very different personalities. About twenty years ago I was in my local library and needed a different type book from the historical novels based around the south, slavery and war. I told the Librarian I was seeking a book series in modern times with a Little House On the Prairie (show) vibe. I loved it so much! I’ve started buying the series in thrift stores to read again.
If you read series don’t read in order of publishing date. The fans wanted more details after one of the books and author wrote one or two books later. You can find guide online. It’s ok if if read in publishing date. The other is recommended by many.

If you don’t want to buy books get on Libby app, used to be over drive. Make an account, link your library card to your library. The bigger the library the better the selection. I’m having trouble with eyes and reading digital is best. Font is too small in books. I just prefer to hold a real book. If you haven’t finished book in two weeks turn off wifi on tablet and book won’t be returned. It doesn’t affect those waiting on hold. Two weeks isn’t enough for 800 pages!
Anyway those are my favorites of all time. I prefer to read a series.
Max Lacado has great biblical uplifting books. Each book usually focus on things we struggle with in life. It’s stories about him & family and people he’s known over the years. It’s a great read about life’s struggles with scripture explanation in today’s modern world. Learning how to get through life while being a christian an trying to stay on path. I picked up a Bible by him with explanations of the scripture in modern life. It has helped me understand the bible better.
I don’t know if he is owned like many TV evangelist. I get a lot out of his books so I will continue to read them. I don’t follow him just enjoy the books. I haven't read them all. Some could be more serious.

If you like reading about life in the early 1900s and decades later this is a great author. I think he has some in previous time periods. Most are bssed on life in Appalachian mountains, NC. He has fiction and non fiction.
The road from gap creek is a great book.

It’s pretty good if you live in an area with better financial or funding. I’m in one of the poorest counties in NC but they get a lot of funding for the welfare people overall all (not just library). My daughter’s friends in rural MS don’t have access to this. She lets them get books on her card.
I have never heard of this. Is this a free or paid?
I don’t like kindle and I’ve tried it several different times. I use the kindle app on my iPad. I have downloaded free books in iBooks (pdf). iBooks doesn’t have the option of changing background and font, etc so I stick with Kindle app.
Hi, just read your username good, that’s funny! I got on Anna’s Archive and it’s a little intimidating, not sure which option to choose to which download option.Do you pay or use another option? Are any of the options vulnerable to hackers? If there a cheat sheet? I’ll keep researching and it you have suggestions that would be helpful. Thanks
Thanks I will check it out.
