Yeah, my bullshit detector is going off bigtime.
I've been making solid Ham radio contacts on 20 and 40 meter bands early this morning (before sunrise) and just now. At least for me, both bands are wide open at this exact time.
West coast bands were def punchy this AM. even FT-8 and other modes were struggling. Lot of noise. Edit: that was me trying to get JA calls though, and I think any blackout was centered of the Pacific according to the MUF charts.
I'm in the middle of the country and was hitting both coasts yesterday morning just fine, SSB only. Interesting FT8 was struggling, that's the one mode that can punch through when SSB doesn't. Thanks for that info! I really need to do more digital modes. My new FTDX-10 does it all and I'm just slackin' on that front.
I posted my comment before I realized it was centered over the Pacific so I was not 100% accurate, but did make 2 contacts in Argentenia, then Chile (5 1-3ish SR, even) in the early morning, that's always fun. 73!
Yeah, I took a look at WSPR as well at the time and saw a lot of noise. Happy Solar Cycle 25 everyone. I'll take the occasional blackouts for having 10m being fun again ;). FT-8 is alright. I mostly run it when I'm doing other things on the computer. Doesn't feel much like playing radio, but is enjoyable in it's own right. If you wake up early enough (say 4-5am if you are CST) you can get a bunch of JA calls as the gray-line shifts.
Congrats on the FTDX-10 -that's a nice rig. I have a Flex-6600m that is waaaay too much radio for what I do with it.
