You may own your house but not the land it’s on. The property taxes you pay are technically rent. Until the land is patented it is public property, not private. Conversely, once your land is patented, you no longer have to pay rent (prop taxes). You will also have to contract privately for services such as water, emergency, electricity, etc. since it will then be private property. Look up Ron Gibson and land patents.
