Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Getting a new haircut can be like a box of chocolates, you never know what you can get. I hate that’s such an amazing saying and it’s from pedo Hanks. If you are a woman you can probably relate. Show your haircut pic to the hair stylist and you just never know how it’s going to turn out. My mom was a beautician (ancient term) so I know hair lingo I just don’t cut or anything else. I had stopped going to this lady over 15 years ago because she was having medical problems and my hair was messed up a couple times. I’m not bread and butter for a stylist, go maybe 2-3 times a year. I found other people and after changing phones lost her number. Last year I found her on social media and made an appointment. Most stylist specialize in one thing: cut, color or perms. She’s about my age and old school. She can do it all!!! That’s very rare today. I don’t think they are teaching stylist like they did thirty years ago. Most younger ones don’t know how to thin hair without taking length. Also there’s more than one technique. TIP if you show a picture of the cut you want you need to ask questions.* I didn’t know this and I was raised in a Beauty Shop. The hair style you have chosen for yourself the model most likely doesn’t have your hair type. You get the cut and hate it because it’s not like the picture. Thankfully a great hair stylist explained this to me. If the model has naturally curly thick hair and yours is thin and straight you will not get the same look. I personally believe these hair magazines, stylists and bloggers choose a model with naturally curly thick hair because it has more body. Bottom line ask questions! Your hard earned money goes to fast anyway. You get a cut, spent 40-75 and you aren’t happy. I got a haircut 12/22 it was $26.00. Today same haircut was $40.00, no wash cut and minimal styling. I’m not complaining about price. There expenses go up and have to charge more. I’m sure in a big major city a woman cut it minimum $75.00. My cut is great but a little shorter than desired but it grows fast.
Every time my wife says its time for a haircut I start worrying. I dont know what it is, but it seems finding a hairstylist who can follow basic instructions and do exactly what is asked and not some crazy experimentation is really hard to find. If your profession is cutting hair, it should be easy to do and yet apparently its so very hard.
I totally understand this. I call myself the hair stylist whore. I’ll give anyone multiple second chances. Screw up my hair and we are over! I tell them I have my hazel eyes, boobs & great hair the rest is average or way below, DO NOT SCREW UP MY HAIR! This happened in 2020, I was going to a really nice Muslim lady. I really enjoyed talking to her while getting hair done. She’s born and raised here and doesn’t conform to all the strict rules. We could talk openly and respectfully about differences in religion. The last time I got my haircut it was very bad. I had shown her picture of messy bob.
Showed her this: https://www.thesmallthingsblog.com/2023/10/my-shoulder-grazing-bob-haircut/
Got this: 3rd one down Mary J Blidge https://www.thehairstyler.com/blogs/hairstyles/pageboy-bob.amp
After calling spoke with manager to get someone else to fix it. Ended up with this: https://www.refinery29.com/en-gb/bob-haircut-short-hair-hatred
A woman who’s been doing hair at least fifteen years didn’t know how to soften the edges with a fringe cut. I know how to do from watching for thirty years but wouldn’t dare do it on myself. She kept cutting and cutting to no avail. The manager was beside us and I told the manager exactly that, messy fringe cut. She had to show her how to cut it. Clearly the lady trying to do my hair does old lady wash and curl weekly apts and should not be trying to do trendy styles. On top of that I had to pay for another haircut. This was about a week before 2020 lockdown. I started plandimic looking like a school boy bowl haircut and didn’t get it cut for two years. So, I’m very picky and if necessary will pay more. Doesn’t help that I’m spoiled and never paid for haircuts etc until I was in my mid thirties. My mom had reached the point she couldn’t do it anymore.
Just like schools passing kids through I believe other schools are doing the same.
No worries! Nothing gay about wanting your hair done right. My husband used clippers for at least ten years. Many men use the clippers on themselves and their boys. Makes it easier and the cut lasts longer. Not sure about rest of the country but it’s common in the south. When he started it was to do a buzz cut. He started getting thin on top and shaved his head. That was probably almost 15-20 years ago. I like it but it’s not for everyone.
