That 4% (in point 2) adds up. To roughly two hundred billion in 2022. More than twice their 2021 profits.
If your data is correct, and the article's data is correct - that means the gov't made $750,000,000,000 in oil taxes in 2022.
They didn't research, or drill, or transport, or refine -- taking no risk whatsoever -- just grabbed 750 Billion. Because they can.
No, the math isn't correct on that one. You seemed to assume that oil companies made all those profits solely on gasoline sold in the US. There's a lot more digging to do than that.
Fair enough. Indeed, I did a simple, rough calculation that didn't account for foreign sales.
Which then makes me wonder what taxes (or other proceeds) the gov't gets when oil is sold overseas...
