Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Good morning or night🤦🏻♀️ About two years ago a distant relative on my grandma’s side sent me a message in a family tree site. She remembered me at family gatherings and knew my grandma well. We talked about anything and everything. She mailed and emailed me the entire family tree on her branch and that connected to me. It took a lot of time and work to research. We link back to a couple of NC governors. One was linked to the Indians and probably moving them out of eastern NC. Not sure how I feel about that but you can’t change history as bad as they are trying. I’m so thankful I have the details because I have information on my great, great etc grandparents.
She was in cancer treatment while we were talking. I never got around to visiting her in person because it was the during the Covid times but not the full blown lockdowns. I could tell from things she said she trusted the doctors so I didn’t think trying to visit her during treatment was a good idea. Also didn’t want to ruin our new relationship with my biased views on the BS of masks and distancing.
The past year has been busy with grand baby and healing my body. We didn’t talk as much in the past year as before. I’ve been thinking about her so I emailed her. She was very tech savvy for a person in their mid 80s. I didn’t get a response and that’s not like her. I searched obituaries in my area and her name. She died July 2023. The funeral service was at Jehovah Witness Church. This makes me sad because as a Christian I know you don’t have eternal life if you don’t accept Jesus. I know this lady grew up in a Christian environment. That side of the family was active Christians as far back as I can remember. These pagan/false religions are teaching you go to heaven and sadly people believe it.
