I always appreciate Mr Sowell's insights.

Took a moment and tried to imagine what it would be like to not be able to think logically, and alternately, to subscribe 100% to slogans and emotion, and I don't think it was a successful exercise.

It's no wonder people are caught in a cycle of bad decision after bad decision. They're unable to recognize or analyze where things are headed in their own lives and more broadly.
