Don't discount 22s. They are great for training because the ammo is much cheaper than anything else (store-bought anyway). Anything that keeps you practicing is good.
I'm getting my lady a Taurus TX 22 to carry daily. She shot my Shield Plus 9 and liked it, but I'm not confident she can handle more than one slow shot at a time and keep on target.
I'd rather have 13 .22lr shots on a bad guy rather than 0 or 1 shots of 9mm on the bad guy.
Outstanding! I taught my daughter with my Walther P-22 before she went off to college about 10 years ago now. I do, however, recommend you test a Taurus at a range somewhere (some ranges rent guns) before you buy one. I have one in .380 and it is one of the most inaccurate guns of any gun I've shot. It will still serve it's purpose though, because it is accurate enough inside of 10 yards. I can easily still hit center-mass, but I won't win any competitions with it. If I'm carrying it and have to use it, it will most likely be within feet rather than yards.
The TX22 series is incredible. Taurus has a reputation, I get that, but the TX22 eats everything I throw at it. Forums and YouTube reviews agree that Taurus did good with this model lineup. It's regularly stated that it's the most reliable .22lr, which is why I'm confident in getting a the compact as her edc!
I trained my boys on 22's, shooting rats under the grain silo of a local dairy farm. Good times!πβ€οΈπΊπΈ
Forgot to add that BOTH of my sons are Left Handed.
