As to whether Christians would buy crackers and grape juice to celebrate the Eucharist, not likely, because most of them believe in some form of the Eucharistic Miracle that occurs as part of the service (for Catholics this is quite literal through a process called transubstantiation). However, they will absolutely eat bread/communion hosts consecrated in this manner from a church service they did not attend. That's how the infirm and home bound can still take Communion, usually brought to them by people who attended the church service.
And I suspect in a Catholic mass if the Priest said, "Brother Bruce fell off the bandwagon and drank the communion wine and hid the bread as a prank, but left Cool Ranch Doritos and grape juice in their place, I believe most present would believe the Priest still capable of the Eucharistic Miracle and would take it as communion with a smile, unless they didn't like Cool Ranch Doritos.
