The King is about to make a "somber statement" at 21:00 GMT on all TV channels. Will post stream when it's available. I don't know what it's about but BBC News are calling it an "existential catasophe for the United Kingdom", parliament will be recalled for an emergency meeting at 9am tomorrow.
Rumours that a major member of the royal family have died by suicide ARE NOT COMFIRMED. Just wait for the official statement - please don't spread rumours ITT
I hardly think a death by any means in the royal family would constitute an "existential catastrophe for the United Kingdom." Existential, in its normal usage, means a dire threat to the existence (i.e, "existential") being or continuation of the UK. Something like a nuclear threat or a biological pathogen or real pandemic (not the BS "pandemic" they sold over the covid hoax) would constitute a real existential threat.
The recent deaths of Queen Elizabeth and her husband before that was not considered an existential threat. It must be something quite dire if they're calling it that.
EDIT: As I write this, it is 8:23pm in Britain, or 20:23 GMT, so about 37 minutes from now.
You're right, insofar as normal usage of the phrase "existential catastrophe." Keep in mind, however, the self-centered and histrionic nature of the main stream media has hijacked our language.
You could be right... but again, I cited the deaths of Queen Elizabeth and her husband, and those did not rise to the level of "existential threat." It was a quick line of succession, as has gone on for hundreds of years in England, and Charles III was crowned. I guess we'll see in ... um.. 10 minutes.
Please keep us across the pond updated 🐸☘️
I'm guessing if you're in Ireland, you'll get the news at least a few minutes before we do here in the US.
Commiefornia unfortunately
Well, does a kingdom exist without a king? Could be an existential question!
Hmmm, could be. But we still haven't heard a word about this.
