You're right, insofar as normal usage of the phrase "existential catastrophe." Keep in mind, however, the self-centered and histrionic nature of the main stream media has hijacked our language.
You could be right... but again, I cited the deaths of Queen Elizabeth and her husband, and those did not rise to the level of "existential threat." It was a quick line of succession, as has gone on for hundreds of years in England, and Charles III was crowned. I guess we'll see in ... um.. 10 minutes.
