I'm not in the know, but I don't think military courts serve papers like a criminal court would. I think they just show up with some MPs and take you away.
But they get a defense, so some type of notice is needed. I'm sure the process of serving notice is different from the states' laws for civilians, but a court martial can't happen without notice.
