Yeltsen left office in 2000.

Putin was president 2000-2008.

Then, Medvedev became president, 2008-2012.

During this time, Putin was prime minister.

This is why Barry Soetoro met with Medvedev, and told him to tell Putin he would be "more flexible" after Barry was re-elected.

Since 2012, Putin has again been president, with prime minister being Medvedev, and now Mishustin.
