Baltimore is one of the biggest eastern ports and shipments will be halted in and out of the port of Baltimore until this is cleaned up.. the bridge took 5 years to build and is part of a major interstate highway.. it will require to be fixed with federal funding and done as soon as possible. This is a huge event for shipments and will cause havoc for commuters in the Baltimore area for years
It's a ten year project to build a new bridge minimum. I have a sister in law that builds bridges for a living for one of the biggest engineering companies in the world.
10 years is probably correct when you include engineering and design. But the physical building took 5 years starting construction in 1972 and finished in 1977 when it was opened to traffic
But...that was when 1972 technology was available...which it isnโt any longer...therefore...
Correct - but - give me a crew of fellas with 1972 work ethic pounding out 12 hour days - 6 days a week with less regulations and you would get there quicker with modern tech
Very true
I will say this after our 35W bridge collapse, it was a major headache for commuters, but they were able to get a new bridge up way faster than normal. We'll see how it goes. Looks like some job creation there in Baltimore.
I heard that many ports have been sold to Chinese. What about this one and what are the other options nearby?
