Romanian mob is coming for your debit cards, with ATM-style skimmers now at self-checkouts: authorities warn
Romanian mobsters are stealing millions after entering the U.S. illegally to install debit card skimmers and drain American bank accounts, California prosecutors say.
They don't do this to credit cards, only debit and EBT cards. I never use my debit card at gas stations or any outdoor ATM.
If you know you'll be getting a deposit change your password a day or two before.
The skimmers take two seconds to install and they get your card information as well as your PIN. It is a hassle to change your PIN before every pay day but if you change it they won't have any way of knowing that it was changed and they'll just move on to the next one.
Or you could go to the bank and withdraw your cash each time you get paid and just stick to using cash.
