Nope
It literally is. A republic is a form of democratic government where we select representatives to vote in our stead.
The USA is a constitutional republic.
The word “democracy” doesnt appear even a single time in any of the founding documents,
Why would it?
Our Founding Fathers pretty much invented representative democracy. At least as we know it.
Remember how America is "The Great Experiment"?
Before establishing America, there really wasn't a prominent country that ruled by a representative democracy in their lifetimes. Most of our Founding Fathers came from countries with monarchies. Probably all of them, but I'll leave some wiggle room for any Founding Fathers from oddball countries. When they thought of democracy, they thought of the purest kind of democracy, a direct democracy.
But we elect representatives to rule in our stead, hence we have a representative democracy.
Kind of hard to put it in the Constitution or Founding documents before it was really known...
But that doesn't mean we don't live in a representative democracy.
Wrong
Yup. Infinity. I win.
Wrong again.
A democracy is rule by men
A republic is rule by law
Interesting.
Where are you getting this definition?
This argument flares up every so often. I used to believe whatever is is you believe, and conservatives kept schooling me on definitions etc
