Aren't you talking like you haven't even considered any possibility other than an attack?
This is the problem with our current situation. Nobody not in the know really know, and everyone defaults to slot it in to their worldview first, facts second. You seem so sure and confident it wasn't an accident, and I just don't know how anyone on either side could be so confident.
Edit: This is what makes information warfare so asymmetrical. You scare your opponent enough and they'll start giving you credit for things you didn't do, which gives you real power over them.
Not sure which See Eye Eh chief said it but to paraphrase ‘When the American people don’t know what to believe our job is done.”
So, mission accomplished?
I recall reading some years ago about a series of collisions with US Navy vessels and commercial freighters being attributed to Chinese supplied circuit boards with “extra components”.
Is it true? IDK. Is it ongoing? Probably, but who’s behind it? Again, how would anyone know.

"When everything the american people believe is a lie". Not quite the same
It’s not the same. I stand corrected. Was it Bill Casey?
That's what I read, but I don't know if the quote is authentic actually
Really good point.
