Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Was organizing the "junk drawer" room in the basement lol, and came across a box of my Grandpa's vinyls. It was a trip to go through those and just kinda get a window to his world. Sure, I knew most of the stuff from the time I took care of him (sometimes that Alexa wiretap can be neat lol) But... to actually hold the same records that he used to play, to think about how they come from a world that no longer exists, going through all the covers and what used to be "big"..... it was kind of a trip
thats the shame about the digital era of music we're in because sure its convenient but it can all vanish in the blink of an eye. Future generations wont be able to brush the dust off a box of todays music like I did with yesterdays.
That’s really nice. There is nothing like holding a vinyl in your hand and listening to it play on a record player or phonograph. I love the crackling sound sounds they can make. My daddy had an old black cabinet with a player inside. As a child I remember us listening to it. Now I have it in my home. I wouldn’t take any amount for it. I miss those simple days. ❤️
One of the albums I found was The Viscounts which was somethin he would listen to quite often during the later years I took care of him
What's wild to me about them though is their album is kinda considered the first "beat tape" and today I make beats lol so its always interesting to hear some of the first "instrumentals" that people vibed to lol
here's one of their songs if you arent familiar.
