That was a filament, also known as a solar prominence.
It was more noticeable from my perspective, in Indiana. I was 100% in the perfect vantage point. I took some pictures but my phone camera didn't pick it up.

I saw it and commented on it. The bright red orange dot at the bottom at the moment of totality. Thought it might be a visible solar flare….
