1954 miles of U.S.- Mexico border
700 miles currently fenced/walled
$20,000,000 per mile stated to be the cost to build new fence/wall sections (seems way too high, but we'll go with it)
1,254 miles left to fence/wall
1,254 x $20,000,000 = 25 billion dollars
The entire border wall could be completed for less than the cost of just one of the several Ukraine funding bills!
Side note: Cost to build 4-lane interstate highways is about $5,000,000 per mile (so where they came up with $20,000,000 per mile of border fence/wall is a good question; probably just more grifting by the contractors)
I think you are comparing apples to oranges. The interstate only involves lying the base down followed by the rebar and then the road surface itself. In contrast, the border wall is similar to building a bridge, but you are piledriving steel every other foot in addition to building a very solid foundation.
The main point of the post was that for just a portion of all the money that has been sent to just Ukraine, the ENTIRE border wall could have likely been built, even with the inflated per mile cost.
We could've walled off the entirety of the U.S. border, ALL of it not just the Southern, housed every homeless person within those borders, deported most of the illegals to have come thru over the last 3 1/2 yrs, AND refunded every police and Sheriff's office, for the amount of money we've sent to "Ukraine."
True, but I don't think the cost was inflated.
