Sounds really fishy. I don't believe there were 5 republicans about to resign if the bill didn't pass.
It makes zero sense. The bill got 311 votes and the Republicans only have a 6 vote majority, so only 4 Republicans would need to leave to let the Democrats have a majority and choose a different speaker. And why would they leave instead of stay and be able to influence future votes and might need help due to a few Democrats missing a vote or growing spines?
