Palestine is the Latin for Philistine. The Romans wanted to erase the history of Israel and Judea banning them from the land and enslaving them all over the Roman Empire. The land was first named Canaan after the grandsons of Noah. Then God gave the land to Israel according to the bible from the Great river of Egypt to the Euphrates. (Gen. 15:18)
Yes there were and God told them to destroy all of them---which they didn't---why they are having the problems thay are having today.
