Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I'm a don't-give-a-hoot kind of guy and I'm not fearful of anything in the metaphysical form. I dont sing songs about Jesus, I don't go to church, and I don't pray. I just go about my life and deal with things as any wild creature would. I know church-people who have accepted Jesus as their lord and savior at church baptisms, but they are still terrified of life. The question is, Will I go to HELL if I don't social-contractually accept Jesus Christ as my lord and savior in a public setting? What if I'm not afraid because deep down, subconsciously I know that a higher power, such as Jesus, is always there with me? Does someone have to witness me accepting Jesus? If so, that is BS.
No, someone else is not needed. God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are witness to it. however the Bible does say confess with your mouth. Meaning do not deny him before men.
Romans 10:9
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
I will say you are missing out on worship - it is one of the best experiences on the planet if you are truly opening yourself to God.
I'm not a big fan of worship. It's really the most awkward thing on the planet to me. The mockeries of Christian worship I see in modern movies and tv shows are spot on (except older sitcoms like Home Improvement and Family Matters). Whenever I attend church and sit through the worship part, I can't help but wonder if anyone in the room is living a super religious alter-ego to cover up for their own personal and private depravity.
To put it simply, it feels ingenuine.
Some people might be ingenuine. It depends on the church and people. I can't stand services that have the lights + fog machine etc or self centered songs.
Worship also doesn't have to be at church. Sometimes I sing at home when no one else is around. Just me & God. It can even just be quietly reflective, listening to music you like that honors him.
