Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
AIR SHOW: Cherry Point Military Base, Havelock NC has air show today and tomorrow. I really wanted to go, have always wanted to see one. Hubby over ruled and said he didn’t want to go. I didn’t argue because we are respectful of each other and I normally do about anything I want. Also, deep down I knew I couldn’t take the heat and sun the entire day. My mind forgets the body isn’t what it once was.
Well, I dodged a big old bullet! I’ve been reading comments on the facebook page at it’s a dang nightmare. People were sitting in line over at least three hours and more to get on base. Those that got in said it was very disorganized. Can’t use porta potty right next to bleachers had to walk over 1/4 mile and there are lots of older people. One lady paid $200 for box seats and they were full by the time she got in. Most people turned around and went home. Many people were coming hours away and out of state. You can’t take in food and water. I saw a picture of the hot dog, it was on a slice of bread. I would rather have a hotdog on bread if I’m home but if I’m paying you it give me a decent bun. I read one comment, they had to walk two miles from parking lot to bleachers. The worst thing about the entire fiasco was the comments about crying kids because they were missing out. Needless to say a very disorganized event. Cherry Point has posted the gates will open earlier tomorrow and today’s paid tickets will be honored.
What stood out in the comments was multiple people said they had been to NC air shows and all over the country. The other shows were well organized and no traffic problems. The air show is free and you had to order a free parking pass. In addition there were upgraded sections you could purchase. So, they should have known how many cars to expect. Many complaints were each car was stopped to view tickets and parking pass.
After reading so many comments I got to thinking. I read a comment here (I think in gen chat). It was an observation about what it would take to bring the country back together, possibly an event like 911. Also, over the last months many comments about the illegals and terror attacks could happen. That got me thinking maybe Cherry Point were checking cars as an extra precaution. Either way I’m glad I wasn’t there!
Yeah flying those fighter jets would be cool until you have bombs heading your way. When I was a kid we went to Florida a lot, Disney World. It was different in the 70s around airports. We would go sit at the airport and watch the planes takeoff and land. From early childhood I’ve always loved looking at planes. Had zero desire to fly one guess I wanted a family more than adventure.
