Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Any suggestions…..computer trouble. I’m on an iPad and lost a folder in my bookmarks. It was my POTUS folder. 7 years of saving things, things I loved, important things, videos, things I looked at over and over again and many things posted from my frens here. I was removing the last thing I saved to replace it with a better version. I slid it over to delete and the entire folder was gone. Just like that. I’m old and I know sometimes I do stupid stuff but I’m sure I didn’t delete the folder accidentally….I had the folder open and deleted last thing saved so it couldn’t have been the whole folder….things in there I’ll never be able to replace or even find again. I did some research and it turns out if I had stuff on the cloud, I could recover it. I have nothing on the cloud and never did. With cloud turned off looks like it’s gone for good. But we all know that if I drove thru DC on J6 the FBI would be able to recover anything they wanted. That’s the reason I don’t use the cloud…..anyhow I figured if they can find, missing, deleted and even nonexistent stuff so could one of you guys……so before I have a heart attack or commit suicide over this missing folder someone here just might know some trick or some way to get back my wonderful folder of so many cherished things…. Thank you anons, I know between everyone on this board there’s not one thing in the world someone doesn’t know something about. 🙏🙏 I’ll be praying and check back tomorrow ….
Edit 2: In reviewing your comment again, it's your BOOKMARKS that you seem to have inadvertently clobbered, not your files... You MAY be able to do a simple reboot (where you see the big apple logo) to get them back. A couple different websites/pages said the same thing so it's worth a try.

.
This one suggests clicking on your Bookmarks icon and being able to choose a "deleted bookmarks" restoration option.

.
So a brief search on ddg says you can access deleted files and restore them within thirty days. I found my iPad "Files" folder in the "Utilities" section.
Try going to your main screen after you start your iPad (and login, if set up for that).
Find the Utilities icon and choose that.
Choose the Files icon (mine looks like a blue folder)
There should be a "Select" option (mine in upper rhs) - choose that.
From there you're on your own as I don't have any deleted files to play with. I imagine there's a "Select All" option or you'll need to individually choose every one. Supposedly you'll be given an option to "Restore" these files.
Edit: For just photos, click on the Photos icon then press the back arrow at the upper left corner if you need to get to the menu-style page (listing "Library... People... For You...", etc). Choose Utilities and there's a "Recently deleted" option.
Good luck!
