Using Linux --- since 1994.
"...since 1994."
Smart move. I haven't used Windows for fifteen years, and I switched to Ubuntu Linux probably ten years ago.
Smart move.
Ubuntu MATE is pretty good

Once you get -- that Linux uses a package manager (several to pick from) that points to assigned repositories --- you will find it easier to maintain.
Thank you for the link and info.
There are so many to choose from

You can get the MATE desktop from a bunch of these. Most any distro comes with several different desktops.
Microsoft products are full of spam.
You know if Gates is behind nothing is good about it for the people.
Congrats on hitting 30 years! I started in 92 so I hit 32 this year. Started out on Slackware installed by floppies, and also used the first live CD (came in the back of a book) called Yggdrasil.
Saw you recommended Ubuntu Mate. What's funny is I just recommended the same on another one of these threads.
If you tell me you also used an AT&T 3B2 or a Sperry/Unisys mainframe at work we could be lost brothers.

Oh, yeah, I remember those days!
I booted Yggdrasil a few times ---- started with slackware -----> debian -----> ubuntu
A bunch of others along the way ----- for me, .deb proved to be more stable than .rpm.
