Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Kinda long, but with this gif I couldn't resist. In my old Methodist church the pastor (who describes his situation as preaching in occupied territory) would often lead the congregation in this hymn, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword His truth is marching on
Glory, Glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on
I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps His day is marching on.
[Chorus]
His day is marching on I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel "As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal" Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel Since God is marching on
[Chorus]
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on
[Chorus]
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free While God is marching on
[Chorus]
His Truth IS Marching on! 🙏🙏🙏
I love it! I’ve never seen the whole song. Thank you, Mr_A!
It's a beautiful song, and a worthy hymn.
The first thing I learned about it was "Glory, glory hallelujah! Teacher hit me with a ruler / I hid behind the bank with a Sherman Army tank / and she don't teach no more!"
... But I eventually grew up, and learned better.
😂
Thanks for sharing this… I am amazed because I woke up this morning thinking about this hymn! And I don’t think I’ve ever seen all the stanzas. Amazing hymn. For times like these.
The last verse always makes me cry. I learned this choral piece in high school, public school. Try that today.
His TRUTH is marching on!
Amen!
