The state-subsidised electric car market has crashed in China and the country is trying to dump the vehicles on the West, but the same is happening here as well. For manufacturers it's going to be a blood bath.
I wouldn't mind getting one.......as long as it was free to purchase. I'll eat the electricity costs, but the $50-$60K purchase price is something I'm not interested in participating in. Electric cars are probably good to have in the cities, but when you live in rural America and it takes you thirty minutes to get to the nearest anything, I'd stick with gasoline and let the cities contend with running out of juice.
