I don't believe in the catholic deprivation thing, it's weird and not helpful
If it's a self-challenge she wants, it should build her up not break her down. She should add a new thing to her routine.
Example: I now have to do 30-50 pushups (or situps) before I am allowed to have my coffee. This is a new routine I've added to enforce calesthenics. I'm going to add more but this is a quick thing that takes less than a minute basically and I can finish it before the pour over coffee is done dripping
EDIT: Maybe even just prayer. Or listing things you're grateful for (gratitude meditation). Thank God for what blessings you have and ask the same for others who don't.
She should do pushups and crunches instead
Or do mindfulness meditation or pick up yoga
