thank you for getting me started. i used about 1/2 tsp of Himalayan salt in 12 oz of water. that kind of messed me up. now i know.

It depends what you are using the salt for. Taking large amounts of salt acts as a diuretic/laxative. Many people do that as part of a general detox, in greater concentrations. But for normal health maintenance, the half teaspoon per liter is about right, similar to a hospital saline solution for IV drips but with a more diverse salt blend.
I was kind of thinking it would help me be more hydrated. When i drink it just makes me pee constantly, doesn't seem to keep me hydrated. The salt water made my nasal passages really dry and messed up my sinuses.
Once you add the salt, you begin a detox cycle. The salt allows your blood to clear out accumulated waste that's been stored inside the cells --- that waste transfers from the cells to the bloodstream --- but now your body eliminates the waste-saturated plasma (plasma is part of the blood that isn't red or white blood cells, the water + the salt) leaving you needing more water and more salt to rehydrate for the next round of cleansing.
It's like a mop-and-bucket to clean the floor. You need soap and water on the mop to clean the floor, but then your mop gets dirty, and you need to squeeze the mop to get it clean. And squeezing the mop cleans it but it also dries it. So it can't clean the floor again until you soak it anew in the soapy water. For the body, your plasma in the bloodstream is the mop (constantly cleaning the cells but getting dirty in the process), your cells are the floor, and the salt is the soap, making the water work better.
