Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I'm listening to the Book of Luke.
I need help with this - Luke 12:49
What does it mean? Why does it remind me so much of post Trump & Covid era :D
“I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
Yes it does. It does resemble these occurrences. Jesus divides. You have those that are truly all in with him, and those that are not. Even inside close knit families there is division over Jesus. When HE tells us not to be unequally yoked, it really does bring division. . Happened in my own marriage. I thought I could pull him in closer to God, but I had to realize that he had to want it. I couldn’t do it for him.
Thank you.. this explains alot. I always wonder why in my household (parents, brother) we're constantly arguing and what you said we're unequally yoked is exactly what's going on. We can't "make" anyone closer to God, it's a relationship that has to grow naturally from their heart.
No if we could I’d be kicking and shoving my loved ones right into his arms. I try not to be preachy to others, I just hope they see without me saying a word. But when people ask me about my spiritual and or political opinions, I ask them “are you sure you want to go there?”. If they say yes then I knock down the door 🙏🏻
Matthew 10:21-42
I know..but what does Jesus mean when He said that? Any insight would be appreciated.
