Except mine. I've been on my HOA Board for over 20 years. Last night we paid for a food truck to come out and we had a block party to celebrate getting through those awful storms a couple weeks ago. We don't have mandatory dues and the bulk of our monies are spent on private security patrols. We have monthly socials, we hire security on Halloween and shut the streets down to outside traffic for the safety of all the kids, we have pumpkin carving parties, Christmas parties with a hired Santa, and a neighborhood Easter egg hunt. Mainly our HOA promotes community and we have a nice little neighborhood enclave straight out of the 1950s. Paint your front door whatever color you want, we don't give a shit.

You are definitely the exception. Your HOA is what HOAs should be.
Exactly. An association of home owners forging a community.
