Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
At this point, I think it’s all related. I’m such a “conspiracy theorist “ that I think everything is here to kill us off. The one genus of bug that seems to be doing okay is the hornet. I saved one from the dogs’ water bucket the other day. Now when I go out there, seven of them come to visit me! They float on the water and then fly a little bit. I can’t help but be secretly pleased that they think I’m okay. They’re very playful!
Playful hornets? Make sure to listen to Trumps snake poem my dear 😂🥴
I think of that a lot 😉but they actually come out from under a tree I haven’t pruned yet and they float on the water in the dogs’ bowl. I wish I could show you video of this. There are two that are out all the time and then the others come when I get there. Besides, what’s the worst that could happen? I get stung and it hurts? If I’m allergic then it’s my time to go meet my Maker😁. They also dine out of the hummingbird feeder, as do the few bees that are left.
Hmm… sounds like you have become the bee whisperer, or better yet the Queen Bee ❤️
Hahahaha!
Get a brown paper bag and fill it a little with crumpled newspaper. Tie a string around the neck and hang it near the water bowl. Spray it with scotch guard to make it waterproof.
Hornets are territorial - if they see what appears to be an existing nest, they don't hang around for fear of being attacked. This also works to repel wood bees etc. I do this every year to keep hornets, wasps and wood boring bees away from the chicken coop... works great.
I don’t know that I want to drive them away. They’ve been here for a few years. At least I see them out every spring. I’m worried about the lack of insects. Something just seems off to me. I appreciate the advice, though. If they ever become a problem, I’ll try this.
