I know about Republicans and Democrats, elephants and donkeys, red and blue. I also know about The Matrix with its red and blue pills but I only just linked the colours together.

Was Morpheus actually offering a choice between Republican and Democrat?

I believe the Democrats being blue came around in 2000. Red parties were associated with communism and the Democrats wanted to hide that.
