The Ukrainians have a history of targeting exclusively civilian targets in the Donbass and near Belgorod in Russia---with American HIMARS missiles. They also have a history of emplacing troops, weapons, and munitions in commandeered civilian structures such as apartments, hotels, grocery stores, and warehouses---which the Russians know about and attack (properly). But this deliberate proximity to civilians and the resulting collateral casualties are advertised by Ukraine as Russian atrocities. The Russians know and have made it clear that they can, and will, and have wiped out enclaves of Western "advisors" and "mercenaries." So, the U.S., being a privileged and necessary party to the Ukrainian misdeeds also knows. What the Russians decide to do next will be very interesting---and possibly quite painful.
