I didn't used to like JFK. Now, I feel different.

Scorcese (The Irishman - whose narrative seems credible, and fits in with historical events) believes that JFK rigged something to win the election from the used car salesman -would you buy a car from this man? Nixon, and John had the audacity to nepotistically appoint Robert as his AG. (Even as robert was trained as a lawyer), which, IMO was an optical mistake. It 'appeared' too cosy. The mob glowered at them, because Robert kinda proceeded to take his job seriously, and pursue some high-profile criminals, which the mob saw as unfair, given the Kennedy's own (as it appeared to them) corruption. But it is hard to say that it really was, even with all the qualified statement that affirm it, because the characters in the bosses and Union presidents were up to their eyeballs in corruption, and even disappearing all sorts of peeps if they got in the way. An ideal environment for spin-doctoring.
To stop the mob trying to establish a trafficking/money-laundering foothold on Cuba, and destroying that Island-nation (with a checkered past.) There was a thing called Cuban Missile crisis - Oh and the Russians - of course they were helping Castro (who was democratically elected, but Americans were scared of commies) and they were counter-posturing in response to the US-Turkey missile stationsp that were ointing at the USSR.
And there was that wee Western War in IndoCHina near the other border, just a hop over China: It was called the French Indochina War and it broke out in 1946 (convenient place to move some guns, after WW2) and that war went on for eight years. It was ostensibly France's war effort but was largely funded, and supplied, by the United States.
Hi There, Kissinger et al. Finally, with the French shattering defeat by the Viet Minh at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in May 1954, the French came to the end of their rule in Indochina. https://www.britannica.com/event/Vietnam-War/French-rule-ended-Vietnam-divided
Good riddance you say? Nope, USA took over.
Just for reference: USA/Vietnam war started just 18 months later: 1 Nov 1955 – 30 Apr 1975
Kennedy vs. Nixon elections were in 1960.
But then, both Kennedies were assassinated - and we are still waiting to know for sure, what happened. Did the mob? Dubya? The length of time for this Original Conspiracy Theory is remarkable - (a term coined by Bush Sr.) of a lone wolf gunman lurking on the hill.
I think Scorcese lets the mob of the hook on this one - the viewer is led to think that they did not outright, but were victims of the propaganda wall of fire coming from Dubya - they seemed surprised in the movie.
Are you saying the movie The Irishman seems credible because it was absolutely was not.
AG requires Senate approval, RFK sr was unanimously approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee. They were familiar with RFK's work as the chief counsel for this committee : United States Senate Select Committee on Improper Activities in Labor and Management
They investigated labor racketeering including Jimmy Hoffa working with NYC mobster Johnny Dio to take over the Teamsters Union.
Here's Hoffa testifying to RFK in 1957

So the idea the mob was surprised by what RFK did as AG in 1961 seems weird to me.
This all jumbled up. https://www.cubamafia.com/index.html
The mob was not trying to establish a foothold in Cuba in 1960. They were trying to win back a lost empire
The mob was in Cuba since the 1920s. By the 1940s. Meyer Lansky was working with President Batista who by the 1950s was the dictator of Cuba until he filed the country when Fidel Castro's revolution took over. Castro was elected? No he just assumed power as the leader of the revolutionaries. By Jan 1 1959 Battista was fleeing the country and the mob was on the verge of getting forced out

At first Castro sought US help but then came out as an open Communist, nationalized farms and businesses (some of which were US owned ) and cozied up to Moscow. By 1960 Einsenerhower was trying take Castro out and approved the bay of Pigs plan which disasterously went ahead under JFK in 1961. This open warfare was what led to the Cuban Missile crisis. Not the mob.
As for the Irishman it's based on a book that was supposedly the deathbed confession of Frank Sheeran who was an inverterate liar
When trying to sell his book the first time around, he forged a letter from Jimmy Hoffa.
The paper was from 1994, not 1974. He claimed to commit 25 to 30 murders.
None have been confirmed let alone him killing Hoffa.
The book goes way way further than the movie. Sheeran claimed he delivered 3 high powered rifles to Dallas.
The killing of the NY monster Joe Gallo in the movie is so far removed from facts it's silly. Gallos walife said there were multiple shooters and they were short fat Italians including this guy. Not one tall Irish guy.
