In a surprise move, French President Emmanuel Macron on June 9 dissolved the National Assembly and called for snap legislative elections. The first round of voting takes place on June 30, with a second round on July 7. In these elections, 577 parliamentary seats are up for grabs. France's next prime minister will likely come from the party or coalition winning the most seats in the new National Assembly. Follow the results of the first round of the 2024 legislative election live on Sunday.
My guess is this: Macron has called this early election now in a hope to build a coalition. If he waited until the normal election timeframe there would be nothing for him to save. People are waking up.
