For hell of a lot of people it looks like they need the opinion of an expert, straight from that expert, before they may start to think about it, even the opinion of an expert read somewhere is not enough when that expert seems to be in the minority. So, when the majority of expert - as far as they knew - told them to get those vaccinations they believed because it seemed to be a majority consensus and from people who should know about the subject.
And our whole society is so damn focused on "experts". Personal experiences or studies done by yourself or something like reading widely on the subject do not really count anymore, unless you can show a diploma about having studied the subject in some institution of higher learning your opinion is worthless.
