But that's not where it stopped.
They were still halfway decent companies who cared about their employees.
The AT&T you know today is actually the scummy wireless company that used to be called Cingular.
During the cell phone boom of early 2000s, Cingular purchased everything AT&T wireless related, including all the Bells. Then took on the name, as it was more globally recognized than Cingular.
Ahh, that explains the general shittieness surrounding the brand now.
