Back in the 80's I was part of a military unit that provided protection to the V-Corps Commander in Germany. At that time, it was Colin Powell. I am quite well versed in how to secure locations, and how to keep your package alive.
How someone could get on a white corrugated metal roof, clearly visible and carrying a big AR-15 rifle 300 feet from the president... and SS didn't know?
This should be a game changer for SS. The guy had to carry his AR-15 from his vehicle to the corrugated metal building, then climb to the roof with it... and nobody noticed? Yeah, right.
Eye witnesses tried to tell SS and Butler cops to check it out. The ladder, the guy on the roof with a rifle, but they turned the other cheek so to speak. These eye witnesses need protection. They will not kill themselves.
Good thing the guy doesn't look like a professional sniper. He looks like a brainwashed liberal, not an expert shooter.
An experienced sniper with good rifle can hit a 6" x 6" target repeatedly from 500 yards, more than 1/4 mile distance, given light wind and good weather. This shooter was on a rooftop of a building a couple hundred feet away from Trump. The shooter fired from a roof outside the rally venue using an AR-15–style rifle.
The AR-15 can be modified to be a sniper rifle with optics and accessories to improve accuracy. It can have an effective range of 300 to 600 yards. It also fires .223 caliber, which is a moderate caliber for a rifle. It isn't a rifle of choice for professional snipers.
That said, from 100 yards, accuracy for a good shooter should be a 2 inch target, size of a golfball. For that matter, my sister can shoot squirrels at 100 yards every time. This guy was missing by several feet. Complete amateur, not military and not a professional. Just my opinion.
