Manchurian candidate, a movie released 1 year before JFK's assassination, was about a guy being hypnotically programmed by communists to assassinate the president and think it was his idea all along. I believe the CIA programmed Oswald to wash themselves off the scene.
Something similar might have been done with this guy. Perfect way to commit an assassination and remain completely detached from it.
