It will come down to the first failure: not securing a location with direct line of sight on POTUS.

No other failures would have been relevant if that hadn't happened.

Every wet-behind-the-ears 2LT from ROTC knows that.

Every experienced NCO and Officer knows that.

You control the high ground. With boots on the ground (and they did not have to climb up Hamburger Hill or Point de Hoc under fire to take control of that roof! Just station ONE LE on that roof! There was no cost and no risk to controlling that roof!) You control it with observations (no drones or helicopters?) You control it with suppressive fire (air, artillery, counter snipe). You control it.

You nailed it: They did NOT secure a location with direct line of fire on POTUS!

WHY NOT?!?
