I am near retirement age now, and it hasn't changed much during my lifetime either, pretty much the biggest change is that most authors have dropped the forced sex between the male love interest and the female POV during the last decades.

And most of the women I have known who seemed most dependent on romance and erotica have been ones who don't have that type of men, or anybody even close to the type, in their real life.
