Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
lol
Haha! That’s a good one.
I’ve heard about that too, workplace-politics.
At my work, we got a new big boss, the new big boss sent away all of the managers who they didn’t like to other buildings.
That makes sense, “Education/Academics” is basically learning/memorizing information that is approved by the gubment. ‘If it’s not in the books; it can’t be right.’
…I saw this Australian guy who lives in japan with a Japanese wife. “TheJapanChannelDotCom”.
He showed a wheel-barrel that nobody was using.
He said, “Nobody is using the wheel-barrel because they don’t want to look lazy, even if it would be more efficient to use it, so they just leave it on the ground.”
He also showed a guy painting a very long/tall outdoor hallway by hand with a brush, saying that the guy is painting it by hand so that everyone can see he’s working extra hard, versus using a roller, spray paint, etc.
That’s good to hear that they are based despite having Fake News too (NHK).
However I did also recently see a guy on the street showing Japanese youth the Swatstika, most of them didn’t know what it was. Weird since they know about the atomic bombs but Germany was their ally too.
I know that channel. He's interesting, but I haven't watched him in a very long time. I appreciate that he doesn't have that attitude of, "Hey look at me, I live in Japan and you don't! Aren't you jealous?" I hate that crap.
Anyhow, no, they don't know the Nazi swastika because they grow up with the manji 卍 here. It's the Buddhist symbol of the universe or whatever, but as slang it means "awesome" "whatever," "WTF," or other fill-in-the-blank random meaning. Show them a swastika and they'll think it's a manji. They don't really learn about WWII until high school.
